Does the truck make the fireman?
After spending the day working on new A plan operations and assignment's for rope, this questions keep going through my mind. What makes a fireman? His truck? His officer? Personal mindset? I tend to think that a fireman's apparatus assignment and officer will have a huge impact on his overall mindset and career. I'm blessed to work with some very motivated members of the Special Operations District, which makes it easy to stay on track as an officer. Tones are sounding...to hell's highway we go. Going to have to finish this one later.
winds of change
With some open opportunities, alignment of the stars and my wife's promotion at work...The winds of change are blowing hard. My assignment as officer of Squad 17 for over six years came to an end. No it's not tragic, as it was at my own request. But, it is hard to leave your crew of many years. Truck and assignment change are two things that I didn't see in my immediate future. Anyone that knows me would tell you that I embrace change on all levels. The new position is that of a Special Ops Lt. at the home of our USAR setup, Squad 4 or the "4 House". Great group of guys in the entire Special Ops District ,without a doubt! The first two shifts wielded 3-4 calls after midnight which was a change for the better...Glass half full right?
Doing a lot of article work in my cramped 36,000 ft. office space. While traveling for training, I would say that this is considered downtime...Funny right. Be looking for some good and controversial articles in the near future.
